AGEISM IS REAL
I was pushed aside because of my age.
What surprised me most was how many others were too—quietly, and often alone.
Welcome to Ageism is Real.
A Note on Why This Blog Is Back
September 14, 2025
This site went quiet for a while—not because the issue faded, but because my perspective changed. Time gave me distance from the initial experience, and with that came a clearer, steadier voice.
I’m returning to Ageism Is Real with a focus on refinement rather than reaction. The core questions remain the same, but the work now aims for clarity, context, and usefulness—grounded in lived experience and informed reflection.
Over time, the content here will continue to evolve to reflect that shift. My hope is to offer something thoughtful, credible, and practical for anyone trying to understand how age bias actually operates—and what to do when it appears
together, we can DISRUPT AGEISM & AGE Discrimination
Ageism Is Real examines how age bias shows up—in hiring decisions, workplaces, healthcare, and the everyday assumptions that quietly determine who is taken seriously.
Here, we look closely at the difference between ageism and age discrimination, the stereotypes that sustain both, and the ways experience is too often misread as obsolescence. These are not abstract ideas. They play out in real lives, with real consequences.
This site exists to help people recognize age bias when it appears—and to respond with clarity, perspective, and information. Whether you’re still working, navigating an unexpected pivot, or simply paying closer attention, understanding how ageism operates is the first step toward addressing it.
You’ll find personal stories, thoughtful analysis, and practical resources intended to inform, support, and connect. Ageism Is Real is not about grievance. It’s about visibility, dignity, and agency.
New content is added regularly. If you have a story to share, a resource worth amplifying, or a perspective that adds depth to the conversation, you’re welcome here. This work is stronger when it’s shared.
Age bias thrives in silence.
Visibility is how it begins to lose its power.

Yet, too many people are judged purely by their age—whether they’re too old or too young. We must break down these stereotypes and promote greater acceptance for all ages within our communities and workplaces. Let’s honor this day and use it as an opportunity to reflect upon how we can become more inclusive of individuals of all ages. From advocating for policies that support seniors living independently to ensuring student voices remain heard in educational spaces. Each of us has the power to make meaningful change through recognizing the value every individual brings regardless of their age. Ageism Awareness Day – What’s the Purpose? The Double Standard of Ageism: Why Women Bear the Brunt
Ageism is an insidious -ism, the sibling of sexism and racism, but with a special focus on the ticking hands of the clock. Yet, within the vastness of this discrimination, there’s a subcategory that’s often overlooked and under-discussed: the gendered nature of ageism.
