AGESIM BLOG: JOIN THE CONVERSATION

This blog is all about ageism and age discrimination.

Have you ever found yourself discriminated against because of your age?  Perhaps, you have been overlooked for a job opportunity, or people have made assumptions about your capabilities based solely on your age. Unfortunately, this is a common problem faced by many adults in our society. While age discrimination predominately affects older adults, it certainly applies to younger adults as well.

That is why I started this blog; to share my experience with age bias and to help others navigate through it. My hope is readers will join the discussions, share their own experience, recommend resources and other contributors.  I invite you to read the first installment of what happened to me in this article: Workplace Age Discrimination.

Begin at the Beginning

Finding myself on the receiving end of age bias was tough. It was a challenging time to find resources and understanding. I felt lost and alone. But as I discovered those resources, I found my voice. I wanted to create a space for people to share their stories. This blog is for everyone who has faced age discrimination or wants to learn more about it.

For those facing age bias, legal resources are often available. However, emotional support is harder to come by. I want to change that. This blog will be a place where people can share experiences and find support from others who have gone through the same thing.

A friend recently asked if I am the sole author. Yes, so far, I am the only writer here. However, I am open to guest contributors. There are people and organizations more knowledgeable than I am in this field, and I welcome their input. Let’s work together to create a community that can help each other – whether you have a story to share, a topic to suggest, or resources to recommend.

Conclusion

Age discrimination affects both older and younger adults, becoming a harsh reality that can devastate individuals who feel overlooked due to their age. That’s why blogs like this one are vital – they provide a space for people to share experiences, find support, and discover resources. This blog started as my personal attempt to understand my own experiences, but it has the potential to grow into a significant community fighting against age bias. Join the conversation, share your story and resources, and even recommend contributors for future articles. Let’s collaborate and make a difference together. Thank you for visiting.

  1. Good read and interesting POV. I once worked with someone who was double my age. Working shift work side by side for 12 hour shifts everyday as complete equals. Although extremely knowledgeable/well versed in communication but lacked speed, lacked the “WANT” to learn new techniques and found it very difficult to adapt to change.. She eventually retired due to self-inflicted insecurity which then turned into aggression and hate. I still question to this day if she was forced out or if she just gave up?
